HERE, THERE,BED BUGS EVERWHERE!

It would be difficult to escape Bed Bugs-at least in the media. With the United States Environmental Protection Agency holding their first ever Beg Bug Summit, media coverage of the topic has been everywhere.

1. Has there really been a resurgence in bedbugs in the U.S. and how do you know?
There HAS been an increase in bedbug infestations. Member pest control companies who receive 1 or 2 bedbug calls a year are now reporting 1 to 2 each week.

2. Where have you been finding the bedbugs?
These pest are not limited to one specific type of dwelling. Pest control companies have been reporting the infestation in multi-family housing,hotels,hospitals, and apartments.

3. What states have been affected?

Bed bug activity is on a national scale. bed bugs are found from the East to the West coast and everywhere in between.

4. Why are bed bugs so hard to treat?
Bed bugs should not be equated with filth or sanitation problem-in hotels or homes,for that matter. Bed bugs are very elusive,transient and nocturnal pest. They are often found in other areas beside the bed. They can live for a year or more without eating and withstand a wide range of temperatures from nearly freezing to almost 113 degrees. bedbugs can be controlled with vigilance and consisitent inspections and treatment by professionals.

5. Why are bedbugs such an issue?
Once inside a hotel or home, bed bugs spread rapidly from room to room- through pipes, vacuum cleaners,clothing and luggage. In hotels bed bugs can can spread to neighboring rooms.

6. Are bedbugs just in beds?
They can be in chair cushions,sofas,behind electrical outlets, cracks and crevices around baseboards,even behind picture frames..In other words they can live pretty much anywhere.

7. How does one control bedbugs?
This is not a pest that can be controlled with a do-it-yourself measure. As they are discovered, the pest control professional will develop a treatment and control strategy with the customer depending on the extent of the infestation.

When feeding, bed bugs have been observed climbing on top of another that is feeding from a human, piercing that bed bug and feeding directly from it.
